All you need to know about Primer!

Before I started doing make-up professionally I always skipped a primer, in fact I didn't even own one, however, a make-up primer is a must have in your make-up kit! Make-up evidently is not the best thing for your skin even if you do follow a thorough face wash routine. If you are someone who loves to get glammed up or even if you only use the minimal amount of makeup, keep reading:

What is a primer?

A primer looks and feels exactly like a moisturiser. The great thing about primers is that you don’t have to break your bank account in order to get this product. Brands such as Maybelline and L.A Girl have amazing primers that you can get from any Clicks or Dischem at a reasonable price.

What are the benefits of using a primer?

Using a primer comes with a lot of benefits. Firstly, a primer hydrates your skin. If you are prone to having a dry skin like I am, make-up application and blending can be a bit of a hassle. Plus adding foundation onto dry skin will only make it feel worse. However, applying a primer on your skin before you apply your make-up will ensure that your skin is hydrated eliminating this problem.

Secondly, a primer creates a layer of protection between your skin and the make-up. The primer blocks your pores from the make-up but doesn't clog them, this means that your skin will still breathe even whilst wearing a primer but don't stress about makeup seeping into your pores.

A primer also evidently makes applying make-up a lot easier, as mentioned above if you have dry skin this can be a very difficult process. Applying a primer before applying your foundation also helps to tone down fine lines on your skin. Your skin will appear to look much smoother and velvety if you are wearing a primer.

Using a primer also means that your make-up will last longer. When it is very humid make-up tends to fade very easily and it almost never sets properly due to the weather. Using a primer will ensure that your make-up stays on longer and doesn't pool in the creases or fine lines on your face.

In the long run, using a primer can actually save you money! If you use a cream based foundation, mixing your primer with a little bit of your product will generate of it. Therefore your foundation will last longer before running out and having to buy a new one.

A primer is also very light in weight, so you don't have to worry about the make-up feeling too heavy on your skin.

Most primers are also hypo-allergenic therefore if you have a very sensitive skin you don't have to stress about the primer irritating your skin.

And there you have it! The benefits of using a primer and why you should have one in your kit.

Love,

Carmen.
